MATCH RECAP:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/09/10)-- Any fans that arrived late to Concordia's match with St. Mary's on Saturday might have missed the entire three-game sweep. The Cobbers made quick work of No.24-ranked St. Mary's in Moorhead as they won their sixth straight match and 12th of the last 13. CC won 25-15, 25-22, 25-17 in one of the quickest matches in their conference schedule this season.

The sweep also completed a dominating weekend performance for Concordia which swept Carleton on Friday night and then turned around and did the same to the nationally ranked Cardinals. It is the third win this season for the Cobbers over a nationally ranked opponent. CC is now 18-4 overall and 5-1 in the MIAC. They are currently in a three-way tie for first place in the league standings. St. Mary's falls to 16-5 in all matches and 4-2 in conference play. SMU is now 0-3 against nationally ranked teams this year and has been swept in all three of those matches.

Concordia needed the first 16 points of the opening game to get warmed up and shake off the short rest period from Friday night's match. After leading 9-7 in the first game, the Cobbers scored 10 of the next 12 points and bolted to a 19-9 lead. The first game would stay at a 10-point deficit until the final point as CC won 25-15.

The second game was the most competitive of the afternoon. Concordia made a 5-0 run to take a 15-10 lead but the Cardinals countered with a 7-0 run of their own to get to within one at 19-18. Like they did on Saturday, the Cobbers rallied in crunch time by taking six of the final 10 points and winning 25-22.

St. Mary's made a push at the start of the third game before CC rebounded and put the finishing touches on the sweep. Concordia rattled off a 10-1 run that turned a 10-10 game into a 20-11 rout.

Concordia finished the three games with an attack percentage of .179. For the second straight night the junior duo of Jenna Green and Katie Vohnoutka proved too much for an MIAC opponent. Green had 13 kills and 12 digs while Vohnoutka went for 11 kills and 11 digs. It was Green's 13th double-double of the year. Vohnoutka also added seven blocks in the match to post her fourth consecutive match with at least four blocks. Vohnoutka also had a match-high .435 attack percentage. The two dominant frontliners combined to hit .302 against SMU ad come up with 31.5 of the team's 53 points won in the match.

Rachel Wiinanen had a team-high 14 digs and Danelle Loomis came away with 16 assists.

The Cardinals hit just .024 for the match and were led by Sarah Gardner who had nine kills. Lindsey Legatt had a match-high 15 digs and Brittany Cherwinka added 24 assists.

Concordia will look to continue their hot streak when they play at Hamline on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.
