MOORHEAD, Minn. (09/27/10)-- Concordia junior outside hitter Katie Vohnoutka was named the MIAC Hitter of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday. The award comes two weeks after teammate Jenna Green won MIAC Hitter of the Week honors. Vohnoutka had an outstanding four-match performance last week as she averaged 12.5 kills per match and helped the Cobbers extend their winning streak to six matches.
It is the first time in her career that she has won the coveted MIAC weekly award. With Vohnoutka and Green earning the Hitter of the Week honor, it marks the first time since 2003 that Concordia has had two different players earn MIAC Hitter of the Week honors in the same season.
Vohnoutka averaged 3.6 kills and 0.8 aces per game last week with a .283 hitting percentage in the Cobbers’ four wins. CC posted conference wins over St. Catherine and Macalester and non-conference victories over Northland and UM-Morris to improve to 12-3 overall and 3-0 in the MIAC.
The versatile Vohnoutka contributed to the wins in a number of ways. She had a career-high 22-kill performance against St. Kate's. In that match she also put up 16 digs to post her second double-double of the season. Against Northland she changed things up and had 13 digs to go along with five service aces. She also had 12 kills and three aces against Morris and eight kills and 2.0 blocks against Macalester.
This season, Vohnoutka ranks sixth in the MIAC in hitting percentage (.307), eighth in kills (3.31 per game) and ninth in aces (0.41 per game).
