Gameday Game Recap

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (9/29/10)-- For the second straight game Concordia battled to a 1-1 overtime tie. The Cobbers conceded a goal in the seventh minute of play against Bethel in Arden Hills on Wednesday but then notched the equalizer at 32:50 before settling for the conference draw.

The tie ends the Cobbers' four-game MIAC winning streak to start the season. Concordia is now 4-0-1 in league play. CC moves to 6-1-2 overall and is unbeaten in its last five games. The Royals, the surprise team in the MIAC this season, go to 2-1-1 in the conference and 5-2-2 in all games. They have lost only once in their last six games.

The tables were turned on the Cobbers in the early going. CC had scored an early goal in their previous two games but watched as Bethel took control of the game by scoring a goal at 6:59. Sophie Christiansen scored her team-leading sixth goal of the year to stake BU to the early 1-0 lead.

Concordia slowly regained momentum and started to press offensively in the second half of the opening period. Their persistence finally paid off when Sarah Rounds fired a shot and senior Sam Johnson collected the rebound and slotted it into the goal to tie the game at 32:50. It was Johnson's seventh goal of the season and 47th of her career.

After playing the first half at an even pace statistically, the Cobbers took control in the second half but were never able to come up with the game winner. CC finished the game by outshooting Bethel 23-15 in overall shots and 7-5 in shots on goal. It marks the fifth straight game that Concordia has had at least 10 shots and it is the third game this season they have recorded at least 20 shots in a single game.

Concordia keeper Ali Nelson made four saves in the game while Royal goalie Alyssa Rigg stopped six of the seven shots she faced.

The Cobbers will now stay on the road and head further south when they take on St. Mary's on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m.
