Concordia's Kathy Wall Steps Down From Head Women's Basketball Coaching Position

Concordia-Moorhead athletic director, Dr. Armin Pipho, announced today that fifth year head women's basketball coach Kathy Wall has resigned her position at Concordia effective May 1, the end of the academic year.  Wall is stepping down because she and her husband have decided to make their home in the Twin Cities. Wall has commuted between Moorhead and  Minneapolis the past two years.

Wall compiled a record at Concordia of 92-34 overall, 80-26 in the MIAC. Her 1999-00 team went 19-6 overall, 17-5 in the MIAC for a third place finish.

Kathy was a student athlete at Concordia before graduating in May of 1993 with Cum Laude honors, earning a B.A. in Physical Education and Health. She returned to Concordia in the fall of 1995 after completing a Master's degree program in Athletic Administration at North Dakota State University.

Kathy started her coaching career as a student assistant coach under coach Bob Kohler in 1992-93. She went on to North Dakota State University from 1993-95 where she was the graduate assistant women's
coach for the Division II National Champion Bison.

"I have had a wonderful experience these past five years at Concordia," Wall said, "and I know it's going to be difficult leaving the players and my coaching colleagues. But I know this is the best decision for my family. My husband and I are really looking forward to having this long commute out of our lives."

"The Concordia coaching job is one of the best in the country and I will always remember the wonderful support I had from the administration," Wall said.

Dr. Pipho said, "We are very sorry to see Kathy leave our staff. She did an outstanding job while she was here and I was clearly hoping she could have stayed on for many more years.  But we understand this is a family decision and we respect that. "

Pipho added, "We plan to have an announcement in the next several days regarding steps toward naming a replacement."

(Note: Kathy Wall is out of town this week recruiting and is not available for comment.)
