Concordia Women's Hockey lost 4-2 at UW-River Falls tonight to fall to 4-1 on the year. UW River Falls improves to 1-5. These two teams play again Saturday in River Falls at 1:05.
After falling behind 3-0 the Cobbers battled back to make it 3-2 in the second period. River Falls scored their final goal on an empty net with 4 seconds left.

Sweet Victory for Falcon Women

The Women's Hockey squad scored three in the first period and went on to upset the unbeaten Concordia-Moorhead Cobbers, claiming their first ever varsity win, 4-2.
Sophomore Mandy Stokes jump-started the Falcons Friday night at Hunt Arena with a pair of goals within the first four minutes. She took the first one on a rebound shot with assists by Hattie Hoff and Sarah Hoffmann at 2:18. The second was an unassisted power play blast at 3:51.
Ecstatic about their early performance, the Falcons went on to score a third goal in the first, this time at the hands of Keri Deschene, who rebounded off a Melissa Kohout shot.
In the second period, however, the Cobbers managed to regain ground as the Falcons were victim to five penalty box sentences. Despite a frenzied effort to keep the puck away from Stephanie Seiler, who came up with 10 saves on the night for the Falcons, the UW-RF bench watched as Concordia answered with two goals to close the margin.
The third period saw the Falcons return to aggressive play as they outshot Concordia 11 to 3 in shots on goal. Though they shut out the Cobbers in the third, it wasn't until the final moments that the Falcons added another goal. Pulling their goalie with 50 seconds to go, Concordia took to their offensive, and the Falcons responded when Susie Misheski broke into the open and chased the puck toward the net. It carried just past the crease, but in a dramatic dive, she redirected it for the score at 19:56.
The Falcons clinched their first win ever and broke their five-game losing streak with the 4-2 upset victory over the 4-0 Cobbers. They will return to Hunt Arena Saturday afternoon for a rematch against Concordia. The puck drops at 1:05 p.m.
