Concordia names Jim Cella head women's soccer coach. Cella will also continue as head men's soccer coach.
Concordia-Moorhead athletic director, Dr. Armin Pipho, announced today that Jim Cella will take over as head coach of Concordia's women's soccer program. Cella succeeds Dean Hashbarger, who resigned on Feb. 1 after serving 12 years as Concordia's head coach. Hashbarger's 1999 team finished with a 12-6 record.
Cella has served as the head men's soccer coach since 1992 and will continue in that capacity as well. Cella was named MIAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year in 1993 and again in 1995. His teams won MIAC titles in 1995 and 1996.
"I am sad to see Dean Hashbarger leave our program," Pipho said. "He gave Concordia 12 wonderful years of dedicated service and we will all always appreciate the opportunity we had to work with him."
"Jim Cella brings outstanding knowledge, experience and energy to the program," Pipho continued, "and we feel fortunate that he is willing to take on this dual role of leading both the men's and women's programs."
Cella came to Concordia in 1992 after serving as assistant coach at St. John's University for five years. Jim received a communications degree from Brown Institute in Minneapolis in 1987 after having graduated from St. John's in 1985.
