5/12 Concordia Finishes Second at the MIAC Championships.
Concordia ran their streak of "top three" team finishes in MIAC Championship Meets to five, as they finished second at the 2001 MIAC Outdoor Championship Meet. St. Thomas edged the Cobbers by a mere 16 points to claim the team title. The 167.5 points put up by Concordia is the most points in a championship meet since they won the title in 1999 with a total of 171 points.

Heidi Brenden (Sr., Minot, N.D.) continued to finish her career in style as she captured both the 800M and the 1500 titles. Both her times were national provisionally qualifying times. In the 800M she ran a 2:13.38 and in the 1500M she posted a time of 4:49.80. She finishes her career as a six-time MIAC champion.

Other All-MIAC performances for Concordia included Kelli Tranby (Jr. Moorhead, Minn.) who won the Long Jump with a leap of 18'1-3/4" which provisionally qualifies her for the national meet. The event marked only the second time Tranby has competed in the event at an MIAC championship meet. Heather Brenden (Sr., Minot, N.D.) won the first-ever women's 3000M Steeplechase in a time of 11:24.25. She also finished second in the 3000M run with a time of 10:40.79. Katie Martin (So., Bozeman, Mont.) finished third, and provisionally qualified for nationals, in both the the 5000M and 10000M. She ran a 17:59.38 in the 3000 and a 37:56.77 in the 10000. Sara Grineski (Sr., Moorhead, Minn.), fighting off a season-long leg injury was the runner-up in the 400M Hurdles with a provisional qualifying time of 64.54.

Concordia fared well in the throwing events as well, as they posted a 1-2-3 finish in the Javelin and "top three" finishes in the Discus and Hammer Throw. Margaret Cropp (Sr., Verona, N.D.) won her second MIAC Javelin title with a toss of 128'5". Alicia Tull (Sr., Roundup, Mont.) finished second with a mark of 119'5", and teammate Angie Strom (Sr., Brandon, Minn.) rounded out the Cobber sweep with a throw of 113'10". Cropp's winning mark provisionally qualifies her for the national meet. 5/11 Concordia Leads the MIAC Championships After the First Day.
Concordia takes a six-point lead in to the second and final day of competition at the MIAC Outdoor Track  Championships. The Cobbers have 74 points which leads Gustavus by six points and third place St. Thomas by 26.  The Concordia was paced by three event winners. It is the second time that Cropp has won the event, she also won the Javelin in 1999 as a sophomore. Her throw of 128'5" is a provisionally qualifying distance for the national meet. Brenden won the Steeplechase which is the first time the race has been conducted in a women's championship meet. Her time of 11:24.25 is a school record in the event. Tranby won the Long Jump in her first year of competition in the event. Her jump of 18' 1 3/4" provisionally  qualifies her for nationals and is the fifth farthest jump in school history.
