1/10 Concordia Goes Cold,

The Headline: Cobbers Battle For Top of the MIAC
The Preview:
Concordia (5-1 in the MIAC, 7-2 Overall)
Concordia is coming off a road trip split with Carleton and Gustavus.
In the first game against Carleton, the Cobbers couldn't find their shooting
touch, and ended up shooting a mere 28% for the game. Although Concordia
led at the half 30-29, Carleton came out in the second half and went on
a 15-4 run and kept the pressure on, eventually winning by a 71-58
score. In the second game, a key early season battle with Gustavus, the
Cobbers used a late first half rally and pulled away from the Gusties,
winning 73-49. In both games the Cobbers were led by senior Brandi Myers
who had 19 points against the Knights and 20 points versus the Gusties.
For her performance she was named the MIAC player of the week. She also
contributed 29 points in a win over St. Kate's. During that game she became
the 16th member of the 1,000 point club for Concordia women's basketball.
Since then she has moved up to 12th on the all-time scoring list. She is
currently at 1049 points, and needs 12 points to move ahead of Leah
Sonstelie (Fosston, MN '98) into the 11th spot. Brandi is currently tied
for the MIAC lead in scoring with a 16.83 PPG average.
St. Thomas (5-1 in the MIAC, 7-1 Overall)
St. Thomas is currently in a three-way tie for second place in the
MIAC with Concordia and Carleton. Their only loss of the season was a 66-65
thriller to St. Ben's. The Tommies are led by league MVP candidate, and
current co-league leading scorer Missy Pederson (Jr., Plymouth, MN). She
is a returning All-MIAC performer. Another reason for the Tommies success
is their tough defense. They currently lead the MIAC in opponent's field
goal percentage. They are limiting their foes to only 34% from the field.
