Took over the league scoring race by finishing with 18 points in her showdown between the top two scorers in the league. However, the Cobbers lost the key MIAC matchup against St. Thomas 68-54.

1/10 Concordia Goes Cold, Loses to St. Thomas 68-54.
Concordia continued to be plagued by poor second half shooting, and lost a tough MIAC game with St. Thomas 68-54. It was the Cobbers second loss in three games, and in both those contest Concordia shot no better than 29% from the field.

St. Thomas used their height advantage inside to take the Cobbers out of the game and eventually pull out the victory. Concordia had no reponse for the inside play of Jennifer Ulstad (Sr., Madison, MN) who finished the game with 22 points, 13 above her average, and 15 rebounds. Helping out on the block was Allisa Case (Jr., Bloomington, MN) who chipped in 13points and rebounds. The Cobbers were led by Brandi Myers (Sr, Glyndon, MN) who finished with 18, and won the battle of the league's leding scorers. Both Myers and Missy Pederson of St. Thomas came into the game averaging 16.8 points per game. Concordia's perimeter defense shut down Pederson, she shot just 4-for-14 from the field and ended the game with only 11 points.

With the loss, Concordia slips to 5-2 in the MIAC and 7-3 overall. St. Thomas extends their unbeaten string over the Cobbers, and improves to 6-1 in league play and 8-1 overall. Concordia will travel to St. Paul to take on Macalester, Saturday January 13th at 1:00.

Game Day Preview

The Headline: Cobbers Battle For Top of the MIAC

The Preview:
Concordia (5-1 in the MIAC, 7-2 Overall)
Concordia is coming off a road trip split with Carleton and Gustavus. In the first game against Carleton, the Cobbers couldn't find their shooting touch, and ended up shooting a mere 28% for the game. Although Concordia led at the half 30-29, Carleton came out in the second half and went on a 15-4 run and kept the pressure on, eventually winning by a  71-58 score. In the second game, a key early season battle with Gustavus, the Cobbers used a late first half rally and pulled away from the Gusties, winning 73-49. In both games the Cobbers were led by senior Brandi Myers who had 19 points against the Knights and 20 points versus the Gusties. For her performance she was named the MIAC player of the week. She also contributed 29 points in a win over St. Kate's. During that game she became the 16th member of the 1,000 point club for Concordia women's basketball. Since then she has moved up to 12th on the all-time scoring list. She is currently at 1049 points, and needs 12 points to move ahead of  Leah Sonstelie (Fosston, MN '98) into the 11th spot. Brandi is currently tied for the MIAC lead in scoring with a 16.83 PPG average.

St. Thomas (5-1 in the MIAC, 7-1 Overall)
St. Thomas is currently in a three-way tie for second place in the MIAC with Concordia and Carleton. Their only loss of the season was a 66-65 thriller to St. Ben's. The Tommies are led by league MVP candidate, and current co-league leading scorer Missy Pederson (Jr., Plymouth, MN). She is a returning All-MIAC performer. Another reason for the Tommies success is their tough defense. They currently lead the MIAC in opponent's field goal percentage. They are limiting their foes to only 34% from the field.
