2/3 Concordia Loses Battle of Runs to Carleton 79-70.
Concordia lost a battle of runs, and fell for the first time in eight games 79-70 to Carleton. The two teams traded leads until the 9:01 mark of the first half when Carleton grabbed the lead at 21-20, and the Cobbers could never catch the balanced scoring Knights the rest of the way. Carleton (13-2, 15-3) had four players in double figures, and their defense limited Concordia (13-3, 15-4) to 4-for14 from 3-point range. Overall the Cobbers shot 44 percent (24-for-54) from the field in the game, while the Knights shot 49 percent (28-for-57) from the floor.

The decisive run in the first half came midway though the period when Carleton went on a 11-0 break, and turned a three-point deficit into an eight point lead. Concordia proceeded to reel off five straight points and get to within three before Carleton scored the next four to finish the half with a 36-29 lead. The Knights scored 13 points off of turnovers in the opening period.

The second half was the same as the first as each team made runs. Carleton pushed the lead to 10 with 16 minutes left, and then the Cobbers made a run to cut the margin to three with 13 minutes left. After trading baskets the next four minutes, Concordia cut the lead to one at 56-55 with 9:31 to play. Carleton went on their game-winning 6-0 run in the next minute, and the Cobbers would never threaten after that point.

Sara Spears (Sr., Spicer, MN) was the game's high scorer, as she continued her hot hand, with 22 points. Brandi Myers (Sr, Glyndon, MN), the league's leading scorer, was held in check for most of the game but managed to finish with 15. Sarah Jacobson (Sr., Fargo, ND) and Steph Losch (Sr., Hallock,, MN) shared gam-high rebounding honors with eight. Bridget Seegers paced the Knights as she finished with 19. Besides Seegers, the other Knights in double figures included; Karisssa Kramer with 15, 14 from Renee Willette and 13 from Angie Grabowski.

Concordia's seven-game winning streak is snapped and they fall into fourth place in the MIAC. Carleton's 15 overall wins and 13 MIAC victories ties a school record for wins in both categories.

The Cobbers stay at home and host Gustavus on Monday at 5:30.
