2/26 Concordia Places 3 Players
on All-MIAC Team.
Three Concordia women's hockey players were named to the 2000-01 MIAC
All-Conference team. Katie Jacques (So., Tempe,
AZ), Sandra Johansson (Jr., Jonstorp, Sweden) and
Shyla
Wilson (So., Cohasset, MN) were all named first team All-MIAC. It is the
first year for all three to be awarded the postseason honor. Wilson was
named to the MIAC Honorable Mention team last year.
Jacques finished fifth in the league in goals scored with 19, and tenth in points with 29. She was named the MIAC Player of the Week on February 6th for her two-game performance against nationally ranked UW-Superior. She finished the season with a school record 29 goals, and was second in the nation in that category. She also finished in the top ten in the nation in overall points.
Johannson was switched from forward to defense this year, and was one of the main reasons Concordia finished in sixth place in the MIAC after only two years of competition. The team also set school records in wins and fewest goals allowed. She was also the team leader on the power play unit, and finished fifth in the nation in power play goals with 5. Overall, the Cobbers finished sixth in NCAA Division III in power play success rate.
Wilson led the league in save percentage, saves and shots faced. She was among the leaders in Division III in those categories as well. She broke her own school record for most wins in a season with 10. She was named the MIAC Player of the Week on February 13th for her 76-save performance against nationally ranked St. Mary's.
