Cobbers Split With MSU-Moorhead - Lose 4-1, Win 1-0.

Concordia rebounded from an opening game 4-1 loss to claim the nightcap 1-0, and gain a split in the annual city rivalry series with MSU-Moorhead.

Erin Gunderson (Sr., Princeton, Minn.) pitched a three-hit complete game shutout in the second game to spark the Cobbers to their eighth win of the year. She was also responsible for the only run of the game when she hammered a home run to dead center field in the fourth inning. The Dragons could only muster three hits and had only one runner get past second base in the game. Six different Cobbers had hits in the game. Senior catcher Jill Pontius (Sr., Eagle Bend, Minn.) extended her hitting streak to eight games with a single in the sixth inning. She has now hit safely in 11 of the teams first 12 games and is currently hitting .525.

In the first game, MSU-Moorhead jumped on the board early, scoring three runs in the first inning and hung on for a 4-1 win. Concordia out hit the Dragons seven to four in the game but could never come up with  the clutch hit. Crystal Hankel struck out five to earn her fifth win of the season for the Dragons. She was also 1-for-3 at the plate with one RBI. First year pitcher Gretta Stritesky (Ogilvie, Minn.) held MSU-Moorhead to only four hits and one earned run. No Cobber had a multiple hit game as the Cobbers stranded nine runners in key situations.

Concordia will return to action this weekend when they host a pair of conference doubleheaders. On Saturday they will square off against Bethel at 1:00pm. Then on Sunday the Cobbers will host perennial league power St. Mary's at 1:00pm. MSU-Moorhead's next doubleheader will be on Saturday when they play at the NSIC Cross Over Tournament in St. Paul.
