Cobbers Have a Power Outage, But Gain Split With Carleton.

Series Recap -
After scoring 25 runs and slugging seven home runs the day before,
Concordia struggled to maintain their offensive arsenal and gained a split
with Carleton. The Cobbers were held to only three hits in the first game
and lost 2-1, before hammering out 10 hits in the finale and winning 3-2.
Concordia was done in by a steady, full wind blowing in from left field and a hot Carleton pitcher in game one. Alyssa Honnette threw a three-hit, complete game in picking up only her third win of the season. Honnette struck out a career-high eight Concordia batters and also scored the winning run in the top of the seventh inning.
Neither team could manage any offense through the first three innings. Cobber hurler Gretta Stritesky (Ogilvie, Minn.) pitched an impressive game as well, as she set the Knights down in the first three frames without a hit. Concordia scored first in the game when Kathy Braun (Sr. Willmar, Minn.) doubled home Stacie Johnson (Jr., Belgrade, Minn.) in the bottom of the fourth. Carleton quickly tied the score with a run of their own in the top of the fifth. Amanda Espinosa led off the inning with a single and scored on a passed ball with two outs in the inning.
Carleton scored the decisive run in the top of the last inning on a two-out rally. After retiring the first two Knight batters, Stritesky hit Honnette and then gave up a double to centerfielder Steph Lee. Honnette turned around and made short work of Concordia, after giving up a two-out single to Shyla Wilson (Jr., Cohasset, Minn.), she struck out pinch hitter Jenai Estrada (So., Moreno Valley, Minn.).
Despite allowing only two runs and giving up five hits Stritesky was handed her fifth loss of the year.
In the second game, Concordia used three, single-run innings to gain the split. The Cobbers picked up lone runs in the first, third and fourth innings. Stritesky continued to keep the Knight batters off track and once again held them to only two runs on five hits. Four players made up the 10-hit parade for the Cobbers. Braun and Wilson both went 3-for-3, and Mandy Pearson (Fr., Watkins, Minn.) and Jill Pontius (Sr., Eagle Bend, Minn.) collected two hits each.
Concordia (9-7, 15-11) will play a pair of doubleheaders in the Twin
Cities this weekend. On Saturday April 27th they play at Macalester at
1:00pm and then on Sunday the 28th they travel across St. Paul to take
