Cobbers Cruise to Team Title at Cobber Invitational.
![]() |
Jr. Garrison, N.Dak. Clears the bar in the high jump. She finished 3rd in the event. |
(Moorhead, Minn.)--- Concordia finished either first or second in 15 out of the 19 events at the Cobber Invitational and cruised to the team championship title. The Cobbers' team total of 246.6 points was over 150 points more than second place Bemidji State University.
Individually, Concordia was led by first-year phenom Angie Pfieffer (Fr., Colman, S.Dak.) - who set her third school record in as many weeks. Entering the meet, she held the school mark in the 55 meters and the 200 meters and in the Invite she added the 4x200 meters record. She teamed with Kelli Tranby (Sr., Moorhead, Minn.), Kari Rosenfeldt (Sr., Moorhead, Minn.) and Emily Tollefson (So., Minot, N.Dak.) to run a 1:48.24, which broke the old record of 1:48.76 set back in 2001.
Besides the 4x200, Pfeiffer finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 59.75 - the fastest time put up by an MIAC athlete this season. She also holds the fastest times in the conference in the 55 meters, 200 meters and 4x200 relay.
Several other Cobber athletes had impressive personal meets for Concordia. Renee Splichal had a busy afternnon, competing in five different event. She won the triple jump, finished second in the long jump and pole vault, came away with a third place finish in the high jump and placed fourth in the 55 meter hurdles. She is currently ranked second in the MIAC in the pentathlon.
The throwing tandem of Mariah Mougey (Sr., Enderlin, N.Dak.) and Erica Eastley (So., LaMoure, N.Dak.) continued their winning ways by winning the weight throw and shot put. Mougey, who has improved every week, won the weight throw with a toss of 47-0 1/4. The mark is her season-best and puts her in third place in the MIAC. Eastley won the shot put with a throw of 38-5 1/2.
In the closest race of the day, Concordia's Tarah Maatz (Jr., Olivia, Minn.) was edged out by 1/100th of a second in the 55 meter hurdles. The top five finishers in the race all finished within 5/100th of a second of the winner. Maatz's time of 9.31 is a season, and personal, best. Emily Arndt (Jr., Fort Collins, Colo.) accomplished one the feats of the meet, as she shaved off 52 seconds from her personal best in the 5000 meters.
Concordia will travel across the river to compete in the Bison Classic
on the campus of North Dakota State University on Saturday, February 22
at 5:00pm.
