Cobbers Can't Penetrate Carleton Net, Fall 1-0.
Made eight saves in Concordia's 1-0 loss to Carleton.
(Moorhead, Minn.)-- Concordia conceded a goal in the 71st minute and lost to Carleton 1-0. The Cobbers and Knights each had ten shots in the game. With the loss Concordia falls to 0-2-2 in the MIAC and 3-4-2 overall. Carleton improves to 1-2-0 and 5-3-0.
The Cobbers had several close chances in the latter part of the first half and the opening section of the second half but were unable to convert. The two best chances for the Cobbers belonged to Sylvester Ndhlovu (So., Harare, Zimbabwe/HGIC HS) and Nwachukwu Chukwualoa (Jr., Lagos, Nigeria/HGIC HS). Ndhlovu had a breakaway from 18 yards out and was stopped by the Carleton keeper and defense. Chukwualoa fired a shot inches wide of the net from eight yards out after taking a pass from Ndhlovu that had beaten the keeper.
Concordia attacked the Carleton goal in the final minutes of the game but was unable to come away with the equalizer.
Kris Overby (Sr., Fargo, N.Dak./Fargo South HS) made eight saves in the game for Concordia. Carleton goalie Ross Matson made three saves in picking up his first collegiate shutout.
Next up for Concordia is Macalester. The Cobbers will take on the Scots on Tuesday, September 30 at 4:00pm in St. Paul.
