Cobbers Continue to Play Well; Blank St. Olaf 2-0.
Nwachukwu Chukwualoa (Lagos, Nigeria) settles the ball in front of a St. Olaf defender. Chukwualoa scored Concordia's second goal in their 2-0 win over the Ole's.

(Moorhead, Minn.)-- Last week Concordia played a pair of games in Colorado and extended two top-flight teams to the very edge, tying one game and losing in double overtime in the other. On Saturday, the Cobbers brought their "A" game back from the mountains and blanked St. Olaf 2-0. It is the third straight game that Concordia has scored two goals and improves their overall record 5-7-2. The Cobbers up their conference mark to 2-4-2. The loss slows the Ole's drive for the playoffs as they fall into fifth place. St. Olaf is now 5-3-0 in league play.

Concordia was able to seize control of play in the first half in spite of going against a severe wind that was blowing from end-to-end. Both teams tried to establish dominance in the middle of the field and both teams had chances to score throughout the first part of the game. The scoreless deadlock was broken at 33:31 when the smallest player on the field hammered the loudest shot of the game. First-year midfielder Kevin Quimby (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) powdered a shot that went over the head of St. Olaf keeper Kyle Trimble and under the crossbar. The play was started when Jamie Hager (Jr., Fargo, N.Dak./Fargo South HS) forced a turnover in the middle of the field, and then passed to Zach Eidenschink (Jr., Detroit Lakes, Minn./Detroit Lakes HS) who in turn fed the ball to Quimby. It was Quimby's first collegiate goal and gave the Cobbers a one-goal lead and the momentum going into halftime.

St. Olaf came out in the second half and pressed into attack for the first 15 minutes of play. Concordia was able to survive the onslaught before pushing the lead to two goals when Nwachukwu Chukwualoa (Jr., Lagos, Nigeria/HGIC HS) headed home a cross from Andy Gunderson at 60:30.

The Cobber defense held fast as the Ole's pushed for a goal in the final 30 minutes of play. Concordia goaltender Kris Overby (Sr., Fargo, N.Dak./Fargo South HS) came up with several key stops of St. Olaf crossing attempts. Overby finished the game with three saves and recorded his first shutout of the season. Trimble made four saves in goal for the Ole's. Concordia outshot St. Olaf 10-7 and held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Concordia will finish their season by playing at Hamline on Tuesday, October 28 at 2:30pm and then at St. John's on Saturday, November 1 at 1:00pm.
