Cobbers' Train Rolls to a 2nd Place Finish at the Jamestown Invitational.

(Jamestown, N.Dak.)-- The successful story line for the Cobber women's cross country team in 2003 has been - compete, take time off to train like champions and then come back and post positive results. After taking two weeks off to prove themselves on the training ground, Marv Roeske's runners finished second at the Jamestown Invitational - a meet that was solely attended by either top NAIA schools or NCAA Division II schools.
Despite a step up in competition, Lisa Owen (Sr., Mineral, Virg./Minot (ND) HS) continued to be Concordia's top runner and a top-flight runner at all competitions. Owen finished sixth in a time of 19:54.10. That was less than 48 seconds behind the winning time of Lisa Nayes of Jamestown who set a course record at the meet. It was a season-best time for Owen.
Erin Anderson (Jr., Bowman, N.Dak./Bowman HS) stepped back into the number two position for the Cobbers. She ran a season-best 20:25.80, shaving almost 20 seconds off her next fastest time. She finished ninth in the individual competition. Julie Miller (Jr. Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) narrowly missed a top ten finish by coming in 11th place in a season-best time of 20:29.10. Alissa Bilden (Fr., Miles City, Mont./Custer City HS) and Natalie Hanson (So., Rogers, Minn./Elk River HS) paced each other to finish 14th and 15th. Bilden got the better of Hanson by posting a 20:44.20 to Hanson's 20:45.30. For Bilden it was her collegiate best time.
Concordia will travel to UW-LaCrosse to
take part in the heralded Drews/Neubauer Invitational on Saturday, October
18 at 11:30am.
