Slack
Helps Cobbers Take Care of Business at St. Kate's.
(St. Paul, Minn.)-- Debbie Slack
(Sr., Evansville, Minn./Evansville HS) recorded her second consecutive
double-double and helped Concordia defeat St. Kate's 70-60 in St. Paul.
Slack had a "career" game as she scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds
in giving the Cobbers the spark they needed to pick up their seventh win
of the season. Concordia is now 5-3 in the MIAC and 7-4 overall. The Wildcats,
playing without three-time MIAC All-Conference player Kate Stodolka
who broke her arm in a snowboarding accident, fell to 3-5 in the conference
and 5-6 overall.

The Cobbers set the tone of the game early as they connected on 50%(4-for-8) of their 3-point shots in the first half. They also shot 46.7%(14-for-30) from the field in the opening 20 minutes, cruising to a 37-29 lead at halftime. The Wildcats offense was able to break down the Cobber defense in the first half, shooting 44.4% (12-for-27) from the field and 50%(3-for-6) from 3-point range. It was only the third time all season that a team had sot over 41% from the field in a half against Concordia.
Concordia was unable to get loose from St. Kate's in the second half, due to the continued hot hand of the Wildcat shooters. St. Kate's once again shot 50% (4-for-8) from behind the 3-point arc but cooled to only 41.4%(12-for-29) from the field. Concordia shot 50%(10-for-20) from the floor and missed on all four of their 3-point field goal attempts.
One of the keys to the Cobber victory was the inside presence of seniors Slack and Beth Drager (Sr., Wood Lake, Minn./Lakeview HS). The tandem helped Concordia hold a decisive 44-20 margin in rebounding. Drager finished the game with 14 points and six rebounds. It is the third straight game that she has scored over 10 points. Joining Slack and Drager in double digits were Anne Keeley (Fr., Grafton, N.Dak./Grafton HS), who scored 12 points, and Jamie Visness (Jr., Hallock, Minn./Kittson Central HS) - who finished with 11. The Cobber offense continued to be plagued by turnovers. Concordia turned the ball over 27 times in the game, and has now committed 53 turnovers in the past two games.
Kate Bremmer led the way for St. Kate's. She scored 16 points and dished out a game-high five assists.
Concordia will host Hamline on Wednesday,
January 14 at 7:30pm in a rare non-doubleheader. They will play at Augsburg
on Saturday, January 17 at 1:00pm before returning home to face St. Mary's
on Monday, January 19 at 5:30pm to finish off the first half of the MIAC
regular season schedule. The game against Hamline will not be broadcast
due to the timing with the men's game at Hamline. Both the Augsburg game
and the contest at home against St. Mary's can be heard live on
KVOX 1280AM in the Fargo-Moorhead area and worldwide over the internet
at www.gocobbers.com.
