Plante
and Splichal Take 2nd and 3rd at MIAC Pentathlon.
- Nicole Plante posts second-best pentathlon
total in school history!
(Collegeville, Minn.)-- Nicole Plante
(Jr., Fort Benton, Mont.) scored 3,037 points and placed second at the
MIAC pentathlon at St. John's University. That total is the second highest
in school history. Renee Splichal (Garrison, N.Dak.) placed third
in the event with a total score of 2,949 points. That mark is a personal
best for Splichal and also the fourth best mark in school history. Amber
Shackman (Fr., Pennock, Minn./Willmar HS) was the third member of the
Cobber contingent to participate in the competition. She finished 12th
with a score of 2,321 points.
Plante started the event by finishing third in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.80. That time netted her 839 points, the biggest score in one event on the day for Plante. Her second-best event was the 800-meter run - the final event of the competition. She ran a 2:30.76 in the event, which was fourth best and scored her 755 points. Plante's previous high score in the pentathlon was 2,827 at last year's MIAC meet.
Splichal scored her best pentathlon by winning the long jump competition. She jumped a distance of 16-0.05 and scored 530 points. Splichal's highest scoring event was the 55-meter hurdles where she ran a 9.00 and posted 794 points.
Schackman completed her first conference championship pentathlon competition with a personal-best score. Her best event of the day was also the 55-meter hurdles. She ran a 9.66 and scored 654 points.
The three athletes gave Concordia 14 team
points which places the team first after one event of the MIAC Championship
Meet. The rest of the competition will be held on Friday, March 5 and Saturday,
March 6 at St. John's University.
