Kaiser Invitational Recap
Cobbers Blown Away at
Erv Kaiser Invitational
FARGO, N.D.-- Fighting extremely
windy conditions and simmering heat, Concordia tumbled to 11th place at
the Erv Kaiser Invitational hosted by North Dakota State University. A
pair of Cobber individual golfers were able to battle through the wind
and finish in the top 15. North Dakota State won the team title, finishing
with a team score of 923 - forty strokes better than the Cobbers.
Concordia was led by freshman
Drew Dvorak (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield HS), who fired three rounds
in the 70's and finished 10th with a final total of 232 (74-79-79).
Junior Mike Lundberg (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS)
finished in a tie for 14th at 234 (77-75-82). His final round of 82 prevented
him from cracking the top 10 for the first time this season. Lundberg was
in a tie for fourth place after the second round completed early on Sunday.
Both Lundberg and the rest
of the Cobbers were affected by having to finish their second round at
Village Green GC in Moorhead at 7:00pm on Sunday and then having to play
their third round in temperatures that were in the 90's.
Mark Thompson (Sr.,
Bena, Minn./Cass Lake-Bena HS) and Peter Krier (So., Lake Park,
Minn./Hawley HS) rounded out the top four for the Cobber maroon team. Thompson
shot a 247 (76-88-83) and finished tied for 53rd. Krier ended up in 62nd
place with a 250 (82-81-87). The fifth member of the team, Erik Hansen
(Jr., Hancock, Minn./Morris Area HS) struggled with the wind and his ability
to keep his tee shots in the fairway and finished in a tie for 79th at
263 (85-90-88).
Concordia will play
in the Carleton Invitational on September 24-25. The meet will be held
at the Northfield Country Club.
