Meet 1 - Cobber Open @ Wildflower GC September 10
(DETROIT LAKES)-- Concordia saved their best overall team performance for the third and final day of the Cobber golf tournaments and shot a season-best 340 to finish 12th at the Concordia Invitational. The Cobbers jumped into a tie with conference foe Carleton, jumping two team places to catch the Knights. Katy Stevens (Sr., Colstrip, Mont./Colstrip HS) ignited the Cobber charge by firing a second-round 79. She finished in a tie for ninth place. The University of North Dakota climbed over the top of St. Ben's and rival North Dakota State to claim the team title. The Fighting Sioux, locked in third place after the first day, shot a tournament-best 325 to win the team crown by two strokes. Their final total of 654 edged MSU-Mankato, who shot a final round 325 and jumped from a tie for fourth all the way to second. Southwest State University finished third with a two-day total of 663. That was one shot better than North Dakota State, who ballooned to a 338 in the final round and finished at 664. Jill Hardy from the University of Manitoba captured the individual medalist honors. Hardy was the leader after the first day and held her two-shot lead by grinding her way to a 78 in the final round. Her total of 152 bested a Kelly Kosack of St. Ben's and UND's Liz Kaler by a single stroke. Kaler and MSU-Mankato's Kristi Carlson - who finished fourth - fired the day's best round. Both players shot 74 on the warm and windy day. Besides Stevens, the Cobbers received gutsy performances by Christie Brink (So., Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and Karissa Evenson (Fr., Pelican Rapids, Minn./Pelican Rapids HS) . Brink finished the tournament with a total of 172 Evenson had the best one-day turnaround of the tournament. After posting a 96 in the opening round, she shot an 82 in the last day. The 14-stroke difference vaulted her to a tournament total of 178. Concordia will take part
in the Dragon Invitational on Saturday, September 18 and Sunday, September
19 at the Moorhead CC.
