Game 7: at St. Olaf - September 21, 4:00pm
Cobbers Teach Oles A Lesson
- Bain In Northfield Falls Mainly in the Goal.
In the team's first three MIAC victories they have jumped on top early, scored once more in the first half and then cruised to the conference win. One more thing has been constant as well, Concordia sophomore Morgan Bain (Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) continues to fill the opposing team's net like it's a shopping bag at a 75% off sale. Bain scored three of the team's four goals - two in a span of 30 seconds - against the Oles and led Concordia to their third straight MIAC victory. That string ties the school record for consecutive victories to start the conference season. Bain has now scored 10 goals in the team's first seven games. She has 22 total points and has all three MIAC game-winning goals for Concordia. On Saturday against Gustavus it took Bain only 4:18 to score the opening goal of the game. She bettered that feat by scoring at 2:24 and then again at 2:34. Like the team's previous two games against Bethel and Gustavus, that would be all the scoring in the first half. St. Olaf narrowed the lead at the start of the second half, getting a goal back just 2:04 into the frame. Bain then put the Cobbers back in front by two when she notched her first career collegiate hat trick at 63:31. The Oles responded by closing the margin to 3-2 with just under 20 minutes to play. The final score of the game came 54 seconds later when Rachel Lewis (Fr., Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville HS) scored her third goal of the season for the Cobbers to push the final score to 4-2. Ashley Liegakos (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) made three saves in the game, and St. Olaf keeper Anna Feigum turned aside 10 shots. The Cobbers held a 20-15 edge in overall shots, and a 10-6 margin in corner kicks. Concordia will hope to extend
their winning streak when they host Carleton on Saturday, September 25
at 1:00pm at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex. The Knights are also
undefeated and have knocked off two-time defending MIAC champion St. Ben's,
as well as perennial leaguepower St. Thomas.
