Two-Out Rallies Send Cobbers to Fifth Staight Loss.
NORTHFIELD-- Concordia lost two, one-run games at St. Olaf and watched their losing streak grow to five games. The Cobbers dropped the first game 5-4 and then lost 3-2 in extra innings in the nightcap. Seven of the eight runs scored by the Oles in the series came with two outs in the inning.

The pair of losses severely damages Concordia's playoff hopes as they fall to 3-7 in the MIAC and 5-16 overall. The Oles remain in the hunt for one of the four playoff spots, improving to 4-4 in conference play and 11-11 overall. St. Olaf has now won three straight games.

The first game for the Cobbers was highlighted by Lindy Sparby's first collegiate home run. She hit a three-run shot in the top of the fifth inning that helped turn a 5-0 blowout into a 5-4 nailbiter. All four Concordia runs in the inning came with two outs. After a pair of singles started the two-out rally, Krys Abrahamson knocked in the first run of the game for Concordia with a single. Sparby then deposited her first roundtripper over the left field fence.

Those runs came after St. Olaf jumped to a 5-0 lead by scoring two runs in the second inning and then three more in the fourth. 

Like the Concordia runs in the fifth inning, all five Ole scores came after there were two outs in the inning. In both innings, Concordia was the victim of timely St. Olaf hits and untimely Concordia errors. The Cobbers finished the game by committing three miscues.

Sparby pitched all seven innings for Concordia. She allowed four earned runs and struck out only one as the Oles roughed her up for 12 hits. Sparby did most of her damage at the plate. She was the only Concordia player to have more than one hit in the game. Sparby was 2-for-4 with the key home run that drove in three runs in the fifth inning.

In the second game, Concordia starting pitcher Lisa Kott held the Ole attack at bay for seven innings. She only allowed two runs and four hits in the first seven frames of the game. Unfortunately, Concordia's offense only managed two runs and six hits during that same stretch. Both teams had chances to score and both left runners on base throughout the game. The Cobbers finished the contest by stranding five runners on base, while St. Olaf left six runners on base. 

Concordia built a two-run lead in the game with a pair of runs in the third inning. The big hit in the inning was a triple to center field from Cobber leadoff hitter Kelli Nies. The Oles countered with both of their runs in regulation in the sixth inning. Not surprisingly, both came with two outs. 

In the game-deciding eighth inning, Concordia was set down with no runs by Ole starting, and eventual game-winning, pitcher Laura Torgerson. The Cobbers managed a single in the inning when Jolene Rebertus smacked a ball through the left side of the infield. She was then retired on a fielders choice play in the next at-bat and Concordia never threatened after that.

St. Olaf scored the winning run on a leadoff single and then a double down the right field line. 

For the game, both teams had six hits. Concordia committed four errors in the game compared to only one for St. Olaf. 

The Cobbers will look to stop their losing skid when they host Augsburg on Thursday, April 14 at 4:00pm at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.
