This Ain't No Joke, CC
Plays April Fool's Surprise on St. Olaf to Pick Up 5th Straight Win!
The Cobbers won five of the six singles matches to come away with their fifth straight win. After losing their first three matches of the year, the Cobbers have run off five in a row to move their overall record to 5-3 on the year.
The match is the start of a weekend where Concordia will play two conference matches on the road and then finish with a tough non-conference tilt against NCAA Division II South Dakota State.
After winning two of the three double matches, the Cobbers put the match on ice by claiming the first five singles matches. None of the first five Cobber singles matches went to a super set tie-breaker as Concordia pulled off the biggest trick of the day on April Fool's Day.
The most lopsided victory came at the #3 singles spot where Ryan Smith beat Mike Matsuura 6-1, 6-1 to earn his fourth straight win. The Cobbers' top two players earned victories in singles and double play. Jake Thomas cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win at #1 singles and then paired with Jordy Kamerling to win their #1 doubles match 8-4. Kamerling was a 6-4, 6-3 victor at the #2 singles slot.
Paul Tuchscherer continues to be Concordia's toughest singles player. Tuchscherer beat Pat Curran 6-4, 6-3 to earn his team-leading sixth singles win of the year. William Wischer was the other singles winner for the Cobbers. He won his #4 match 6-3, 6-3 and is quietly becoming a force at the #4 spot in his first year of collegiate tennis.
Concordia will continue their
road trip tomorrow when they play at St. Mary's at 11:00am.
