Myran Debuts As Champion,
Cobbers Capture Third at Cobber Duals.
The Cobbers finished the meet with a 3-1-1 overall record, which placed them in a tie with MSU-Moorhead. Jamestown College won the vent with a perfect 5-0 record. The 3-1-1 record for the Cobbers is their best overall mark at the competition since the 2001-02 season when they went 4-1. Myran, running for the first time all season since sustaining an injury in intramural basketball, won the 3000 meters in a time of 8:56.84. He won the event by over 20 seconds, and his time currently places him in the top five of the conference for the event. Myran was the only Concordia athlete to win an individual event. Ben Nylander, Myran's supporting actor throughout the track and field season, had another strong showing at the beginning of the season. Nylander finished second in the 1500 meters in a time of 4:08.54. That time is the fastest in the conference this season, however the 1500 meters is not an event that is run at the conference indoor championship meet. Senior Kyle Halliday and sophomore Dusten Olejnicak rounded out the quartet of Concordia top three finishes. Halliday ran a 1:26.05 in the 600 meters and finished third. Olejnicak pulled off one of the surprises of the day for the Cobbers as he placed third in the triple jump with a career-best mark of 41-3. It is also the best mark for a Concordia athlete in the event since the 2002 indoor season when Dwight Jilek jumped 43-0 1/2. The distance medley relay team for the Cobbers pulled off a second place finish. Concordia's team crossed the finish line in a time of 11:19.69. Concordia will continue to
stay at home during the indoor season. They will host the Cobber Open on
Saturday, February 5 at noon in the Olson Forum.
