Cobber Championship Crew
Gears Up at the Cobber Open.
Concordia claimed individual event titles in the 1000 meters and in two different relay events. Jen St. John, one of this year's biggest stories for the Cobbers as she emerges as a top-flight middle distance runner, won the 1000 meters in a time of 3:05.33, which was over one second faster than the runner-up finisher. Her time is also the second fastest in the MIAC to date. Concordia's distance medley relay team and shuttle hurdle relay team also took home victories. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Nicole Plante, Leah Hegland, Jill Fancher and Emily Tollefson won the event and set a school record in the process. The team blazed to a time of 35.20, which shatters the old mark of almost two full seconds. The distance medley relay's (Jen St. John, Fancher, Rachel Charpentier, Natalie Hanson) time of 13:02.05 won the event by almost four seconds and places them #6 on the school's all-time performance chart. It is also the fastest time turned in by any school in the MIAC this year. Other top individual performers for Marv Roeske's crew included Hanson, Amy Ravenhorst, Alissa Bilden, Angie Pfeiffer, Erin Anderson and Lindsay Kuznia. Hanson and Ravenhorst went 2-4 in the 800 meters. Hanson recorded a time of 2:20.45, which is the fourth fastest time ever run by a Cobber in the event. Ravenhorst finished fourth in a time of 2:21.47. That mark is the seventh fastest on the all-time list. Three, non-top ten school times but top three in the event finishes, were turned in by Bilden, Pfeiffer and Anderson. Bilden finished second in the 600 meters in a time of 1:42.23. Pfeiffer, one of the league's premiere sprinters clocked a 59.33 in the 400 meters and finished third. That is the fastest time in the MIAC this season. Anderson brought home a runner-up finish in the 3000 meters in a time of 12:01.47. Kuznia provided a spark for the Cobber field athletes. Competing in one of the biggest pole vault fields in the region, Kuznia posted a vault of 10-6 and finished in a tie for the fifth best height. For Kuznia, it was a personal best and is also the second best mark posted by a Cobber athlete in the history of the program. Her height was part of a field of 14 athletes that all vaulted over 10 feet. Concordia's next competition
will come at the St. Ben's Triangualar Meet on February 12 at 1:00pm.
