Cobbers Defeat Carleton 84-77 Jan 8, 1996

The Running Cobbers jumped ahead early in Monday night's game against Carleton here but had to withstand a late rally by the Knights to come away with an 84-77 victory at Concordia.

The Cobbers were led by Jason Sorenson's 17 points, including five three pointers. Jessie Williams added 16 points, along with Daimen Crump's 14, as the Cobbers had six players who scored in double figures. Kenny Nelson led the team with eleven rebounds in addition to his eleven points.

After they went ahead 17-14 with nine minutes left in the game, the Running Cobbers used outstanding perimeter shooting and frequent fast breaks to outscore the Knights 29-18 in the remainder of the half to take a commanding 46-32 lead at half-time.

In the second half, the Cobbers' lead grew to 20 points, but then the Knights began a comeback. With eight minutes left in the game, Carleton started started a 19-10 run and held Concordia to ten points for the rest of the game. However, Concordia was able to convert its free throws down the stretch to win the game.

For the game, Concordia shot 49 percent from the field, making 32 of 66 field goals. The Cobbers, led by Sorenson's five three pointers made 57 percent of their shots beyond the three point arc.

Next up for the Cobbers is a Jan. 10 date against 7-3 Augsburg
