John Eidsness was the first Cobber men's basketball coach to win two MIAC Championships, leading the Cobbers to titles in 1981-82 and 1982-83. He was MIAC coach of the year in 1981-82 and 1982-83. John retired from coaching at Concordia in 1991 and is now in the insurance business in Fargo-Moorhead.
As a player for the "Running Rabbits" of South Dakota State University from 1968-70, he played on 3 NCC Championship teams with a combined record of 60-17. After one year as a Graduate Assistant at South Dakota State University, John became coach Jim Marking's varsity assistant at South Dakota State University. Eidsness held this position for three years during which the "Running Rabbits" won one Conference Championship and finished second another year.
He then served four years as head basketball coach at Yankton College, Yankton South Dakota. There Eidsness turned the Grey Hounds into the "Running Hounds" and took over a team that had won a total of 9 games in the two previous seasons to seasons of 9, 13, 23, and 19 wins including one Conference Championship.
John lives in Moorhead with his wife, Janis. They have three children, two boys, Rick and Scott, and one girl, Christy.
