MOORHEAD, Minn. - Nels Paulson intercepted a pass from Carleton  quarterback Andy Quist with 00:46 left in the game to stop Carleton's late run and  preserve the Concordia Cobbers'  28-21 victory in a MIAC football game  Saturday at Jake Christensen Stadium.
With 11:38 to play in the fourth quarter and the score tied at 21, Concordia's Ethan Pole  connected with Chris Howell from 45 yards out. Howell faked outside, and went in avoiding  the defender and running in untouched for the game-winning touchdown.
Carleton had tied the game less than three minutes earlier with a 10 yard  strike to Nick Birk from quarterback Quist and a completed the two-point  conversion.
It was all they could manage, with Concordia answering right  back with Howell's touchdown and the late interception by Paulson to put  the game away.
When the game got underway, turnovers continued to plague the  Cobbers as they fumbled on their first play from scrimmage, setting up  Carleton's first score.
The Cobbers answered back, as Adam Strainer caught an Ethan Pole  pass to even the game.
Carleton took their turn, scoring on a pass from Quist that was  deflected three times, before the the Carleton receiver came down with the  ball.
Then it was Strainer again, catching his sixth touchdown pass of  the year. Clayton Horgen kicked the extra point to put the Cobbers up  14-13.
Concordia improves to 1-1 in MIAC play and 1-2 overall. Carleton  falls to 0-2 in conference play and 1-2 overall as well.
