Athletic information reported in the Concordia publications prior to about 1908 was at best quite sketchy.
College Athletics Association
An athletic association was formed in 1904 in order to have general supervision of all athletics at the college. The constitution provided for a number of departments and managers for each, including baseball, basketball, tennis, skating rink and gymnasium. Members of the association paid a fee of two dollars for the year which entitled them to the use of the gymnasium, the skating rink, baseball games and other athletic events on the college grounds. It is now an established fact that athletic sports under reasonable restrictions increase rather than decrease a student's efficiency in the classroom. The athletic association required that participation was only during the hours set aside for that purpose and that those who are to engage in contest games must maintain a fair class average.(1)
In 1910 the Concordia Record reported that the athletic association
had been reorganized and the work is being pushed with vigor. Mr. Simonson,
the president of the association, outlined the work for the year and he
urged the sale of season tickets. The boys show great interest in the organization
and they bought suits for general athletic work.
