Baseball 1959

The Steve Gorman Trophy League which pioneered inter-collegiate baseball in the area for 11 seasons, was disbanded at a meeting over the weekend. The league was composed of colleges in four conferences and brought baseball into prominence at a time when there was no competition among college teams on the diamond in this area.

Representatives of the colleges in the league at the meeting here voted to disband because all have commitments in their conferences.

The league was named for Steve Gorman, former president of the Fargo-Moorhead Twins of the Northern League, who donated the trophies for the champions annually. Stan Koska, former NDAC football coach and a two-time state championship pilot as coach of Fargo's American Legion junior baseball team, was commission of the league.

Representatives of the eight schools which have competed in the league at their weekend meeting here have presented athletic letters, which will be awarded to Groman some time after his return from a winter vacation in Arizona.

MSC won four titles and shared one for the greatest success in the league. Jamestown, Concordia and Mayvill TC each won one and shared one title. The 1950 campaign was canceled, forced to cut its schedule because of inclement weather.(8)

Bill Quenette coached the 1959 baseball team to a 10 - 8 - 1 record. Those on the team were Don Grager, Jerry Dahlager, Rog Anderson, Lyle Sannes, Jerry Harter, Marv Anderson, Wayne Sondreal, Larry Swanson, Del Olson, Denny Lyngren, Ed Beyer, Bob Rasmus, Glen Temanson, Gary Greenfield, Carl Grandstrand, Don Brose, Howard Nellermoe, Roger Adair, Arlo Brunsberg and Dave Olson.
