Good things are supposed
to happen to good people, unfortunately for Concordia senior track standout
Nick
Myran (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS), something terrible happened
to someone so good. Myran, looking to cap his storied Cobber career with
the elusive All-American honors, was part of a four-person crash with 300
meters left in the 1500-meter finals at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track
and Field Championship Meet held in Waverly, Iowa and finished in 10th
place - two spots out of All-American status.
Myran, starting in the first
lane, went out fast so he would not get boxed in by the 12-man field. Myran
led the race for the first two laps as the pack settled into a leisurely
pace. At the 800-meter mark, another runner took his turn leading the pack
as Myran relinquished his lead in order to save his strength for the finishing
stretch.(More) |

MOORHEAD-- Fighting an overcast
sky and swirling wind conditions, Concordia hosted five area schools at
the annual Cobber Twilight Meet in a meet where the elements were just
as much of a factor as the athletes themselves.
Dave
Pettit led the Cobber field crew at the meet. He posted two top-five
finishes in a pair of field events. Four other Cobber athletes recorded
a top five finish on the day. Besides Pettit, three other field athletes
claimed top finishes. Alex Brandt collected fifth place in the triple
jump, while William Duppler
and Joey Twigg finished at the top of the shot put. Duppler ended
the meet in third place, and Twigg was able to hang on for fifth place.
Ben
Nylander was the only track athlete to post a top five finish.
He fought off a stiff head wind, and a strong field, in the final stretch
of the 800 meters and placed fourth.(More) |
