The much-anticipated show down between the number one and two teams in the MIAC, Concordia and Gustavus, ended in disappointment as the Cobbers lost an early lead and the game 69-62 last weekend.
The loss drops the Cobbers into second place in the MIAC with an 11-2 conference record, 14-3 overall.
In the first half, Concordia enjoyed a 36-25 advantage, but saw it dwindle down to three at halftime.
Concordia fell into a shooting funk that allowed Gustavus to pull ahead 50-42, but rallied to tie the score at 60-60 with two minutes left in the game.
In the end, clutch free throw shooting allowed Gustavus to seal the win and remain at the top of the conference standings.
The Cobbers were led in scoring by junior Kevin Pearson. He kept Concordia close with 18 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the floor. He also connected on 6 of 7 free throw attempts.
Senior Jason Sorenson contributed 11 to the Cobber cause while junior Daimen Crump, the teams' scoring leader, and senior Kenny Nelson added 10 points each.
The Cobbers will take to the road tomorrow to play at St. John's and at Carleton on Monday. Their next home game is at 7:30 p.m Wednesday against Augsburg.
