The Cobber volleyball team lost to St. Mary's in three games here today, 9-15, 8-15 and 11-15 .
Concordia got off to a good start in the first game, going ahead 2-1. However, St. Mary's came back and scored three unanswered points to put St. Mary's up 2-4. The Cobbers added one to close the gap to 3-4, but couldn't close it any further as St. Mary's went ahead 3-6. The Cobbers came back and tied the match at 6-6, before St. Mary's went up again 6-12. Concordia battled back again closing to three at 9-12. However, St. Mary's scored the last three points to end the first game 9-15.
In the second game Concordia let St.Mary's get ahead early as the Cobbers fell behind 0-2. Concordia fought back and tied the score at 2-2. However, Concordia's rally stopped there as St. Mary's scored the next eight points to lead the Cobbers 2-10. After St. Mary's side out Concordia answered back with five points, closing the gap to three, 7-10. However, St. Mary's was able to outlast the Cobbers, scoring the last four points and taking the game 8-15.
In the third game Concordia jumped out at the start scoring three points.
An ace by junior Anne Larson to put Concordia up 3-0. The Cobbers led by
as much as four, but couldn't hold St. Mary's as they closed the gap to
7-5. The Cobbers were holding on to a one point lead 10-9. However, Concordia
just couldn't hold against St. Mary's strong attack. St. Mary's tied the
game 11-11, and then scored the last four
points to take the game and match 11-15 and the game in three matches.
