SEASON OUTLOOK
Depth will be a key for the Cardinals, who did not lose a player to graduation and return all five starters from a year ago. "There's no question this team is far better than the team we put on the court a year ago," said SMU head coach Bob Biebel, who is entering his second season as the Cardinals' head coach. "We're deeper,, we're more talented, we're bigger and stronger — we've improved ourselves in every facet of the game." Wtih the return of  J.B. Mathison and Ryan Rankin, the Cardinals have the perfect 1-2 punch, and with several key returners and a solid crop of freshmen, Biebel expects the Cardinals to make a big move up the MIAC ladder.
