Doug Perry, a 1965 Concordia
graduate, took over as head wrestling coach in 1991 and helped that team
score two MIAC Individual Championships and place three wrestlers on the
Academic All-America squad. Doug guides a program rich in athletic tradition,
with a long list of All-Americans to its credit, and wrestlers who've attained
equally fine academic honors.
In 2002 Perry was named the
MIAC Coach of the Year. During his tenure at Concordia Perry has coached
1 All-American, 3 Academic All-Americans, 3 MIAC Champions and 22 MIAC
All-Conference athletes.
Perry has high expectations
for the young men in his program. He stresses the importance of a sound
team concept, hard work and individual dedication.
Doug has 26 years of experience
as a wrestling coach. He taught and coached at Worthington, MN, for 17
years prior to coming to Concordia as a coach and faculty member of the
Concordia Physical Education Department. During that time he worked with
numerous regional and state tournament teams as well as a number of individual
state champions.
Doug also serves as an assistant
football coach. He lives in Moorhead with his wife Janet. They have three
children: Jayson, Jodi, and Jeni.
