The College Sporting News Feature on Carmelle Johnson.
- MIAC Profiles of Excellence - Carmelle Johnson
Defense players on a soccer team are often overlooked, as their offensive counterparts do most of the scoring. But playing defense instills discipline in an athlete, and that is a trait that is essential to becoming a success later in life. This is particularly true for someone like Carmelle Johnson of Concordia College, who plans to someday design her own line of women’s wear. To reach that goal requires considerable planning, patience and discipline, along with talent and a little luck.

“My goal is to eventually open my own boutique, selling other people's designs at first,” she said. “From there, I plan to launch my own line of clothes, targeting 20-35 year old women. I plan to offer something classy but fun.”(More)

Young Cobbers Fall in MIAC Championship Game to Seasoned Macalester 2-0.
Box Score: Concordia 0, Macalester 2
ST. PAUL-- The odds were stacked against Concordia in the MIAC title game against Macalester. First, the Cobbers were playing in their first-ever MIAC title game, the Scots their second consecutives. Next, Concordia was fighting for a berth in their first-ever NCAA tournament, while Macalester was hoping to make it to the NCAA postseason party for the eighth time in the last ten years. The Scots have seven seniors on the squad, and 10 of their 11 starters are either juniors or seniors.

Oops, She Did it Again! Morgan Bain Earns MIAC Player of the Week Honors!
For the second consecutive week and third time this season Morgan Bain (So., Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake, Minn.) was named the MIAC Player of the Week. She wins the award after helping Concordia to a pair of wins this past week, and helping the Cobbers clinch their second consecutive MIAC playoff berth.

She becomes the first player in the history of either men's or women's soccer  in the MIAC to win Player of the Week honors three times in one year.

Bain scored three goals in Concordia's two conference games and in the process broke the school record for most goals in a season. Bain now has 20 goals overall and 15 in conference games. She needs two more goals in the team's two remaining MIAC games to break the conference mark for goals and points in a single season.

On Tuesday in Concordia's 3-1 win over St. Thomas, Bain scored a pair of goals. Her two goals helped the Cobbers beat the Tommies for the first time in 12 years.

In Saturday's 2-1 overtime win over Augsburg she scored the first goal of the game for the Cobbers. That goal broke the school record of 19 goals in a season, which was last set in 1993. With the win, Concordia clinched a spot in the MIAC playoffs for the second consecutive season.

Bain currently has 45 points (20 goals/5 assists) on the season and needs only two points to break the school record for points in a season. In conference play, she has 15 goals and three assists for 33 points.

Morgan Bain Named MIAC Player of the Week!
Morgan Bain (So., Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) was named the MIAC Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks. Bain helped Concordia win both games this past week, and is on pace to break school and conference scoring records.

Bain scored five goals and had one assist last week in Concordia's two victories. Against NCAA Division II MSU-Moorhead, Bain assisted on the first goal and then scored the fourth goal of the game.

On Saturday, in the Cobbers' 7-0 win over St. Catherine, Bain collected four goals. It was the first four-goal game of her collegiate career. She also scored the game-winning goal against the Wildcats, giving her four game-winners on the season - tops in the MIAC.

For the year, Bain has 17 goals and five assists for 39 points. She needs only three more goals to break the school record for goals in a season. She also needs seven points to break the school record for points in a season. In conference play, she has 12 goals and three assists for 27 points. She currently leads the MIAC in points, goals and shots taken. She needs five goals in the teams' next four league games to break the MIAC record for goals in a season. Additionally, she needs 10 points to break the conference mark for points in a season.
