Tough 2005 Campaign Comes
to a Close With a Pair of Losses at the MIAC Tournament.

ST. PAUL-- Concordia lost
9-0 to St. Olaf in the first round of the MIAC championship tournament,
and then finished the day by being beaten by Hamline 8-1 in the first round
of the consolation bracket.
The two losses push the Cobbers
out of the tournament and finishes their season. Concordia ends the year
with a 1-15 overall record and a 0-12 mark against competition from the
MIAC. The 15 losses is the most ever in a season for a Cobber women's tennis
team since the program began back in 1980.
April 23

Season by Falling 9-0 to St. Kate's.

ST. PAUL-- Concordia concluded
their regular season they same way they did in six other matches during
the conference schedule, they were shutout by an MIAC opponent. The Cobbers
lost 9-0 to St. Kate's in a match played in St. Paul.
The match was the last chance
for Concordia to scratch out a win in conference play. The Cobbers finish
0-10 in the regular season. Overall, they fall to 1-13. The Wildcats win
for the first time in five matches as they improve to 5-4 in league play
and 8-8 overall.
Freshman Val
Bostrom was involved in the two closest matches of the day. She
teamed with Jami Winkelman
at the #3 doubles and narrowly lost 8-5. Bostrom then battled to a 6-3,
6-4 defeat in the #5 singles slot.(More) |

Cobbers Tune Up for Final
MIAC Push by Beating Valley City's Club Team 6-0.
- The Concordia match with
Valley City does not count on the official record or for year-end statistics
because Valley City's women's tennis team only has club status.

8-1 Defeat on Perfect Day for Tennis.

MOORHEAD-- The sun was shining,
there was nary a cloud to be seen and most importantly, the ever-present
springtime wind was not even whispering. All this made for perfect match
conditions as the Concordia dueled Bethel on Saturday at the Jake Christiansen
Athletic Complex.
The Cobbers were unable to
recover from losing all three doubles matches and lost 8-1 to the Royals.
The loss drops Concordia's record to 0-9 in the MIAC and 1-12 overall.
They have now lost six straight matches.
Bethel wins for the second
time in conference play, winning for the second time in three matches.
The Royals are now 2-6 in the league and 4-11 overall.(More) |

String But Can't Overcome Hamline, Fall 6-3.

ST. PAUL-- Although Concordia
lost all three doubles matches to start their dual meet with Hamline, the
Cobbers were able to stay even with the Pipers in singles play and only
ended up losing 6-3.
The three wins for the Cobbers
breaks a string of three straight dual meets where Concordia had been shutout
by their opponent. The Cobbers lose for the fourth straight time, dropping
their overall record to 1-10 on the year. Concordia is now 0-7 in
conference play. Hamline wins for the first time in the MIAC as they improve
to 1-5. They are now 3-13 overall.(More)

WINONA-- Concordia dropped
their second straight 9-0 decision on the weekend, as they were overpowered
by St. Mary's in Winona on Sunday.
The Cobbers hung tight in
the doubles matches but were only able to take one set in the singles matches,
as they fell to 1-8 on the season. The 9-0 loss marks the fourth time this
season that they have been shutout. St. Mary's picks up their second shutout
on the year and moves to 4-4 overall.(More)

MOORHEAD-- Concordia dropped
their opening match of the 2005 MIAC conference schedule by falling 9-0
to Carleton. The Knights entered the match as one of the preseason picks
to win the MIAC conference and it showed as they blanked the Cobber for
the second consecutive season.
The Cobbers, who lost a tight
5-4 match against cross-town rival MSU-Moorhead on Friday, are still searching
for the team's first win of the year. Concordia is now 0-3 on the young
season. Carleton wins their opening match of the entire spring season and
starts the 2005 campaign where they left off last season. The Knights finished
third in the MIAC last season and are expected to battle with Gustavus
for this year's championship. Carleton is currently ranked ninth in the
region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).(More)
