Concordia-Moorhead's Maria DeBoer All-American

Maria DeBoer a Concordia College, Moorhead, junior received NCAA Division III All-America distinction.  Maria was third in the discus throw at the National Track and Field Championships in Berea, Ohio at Baldwin Wallace College.  Her 146 foot one inch effort was exactly three feet off the winning throw of 149-1 by Tabitha Fendrick of Wisconsin-Whitewater.  This is the second All-America honor for Maria who was fifth in the discus at last year's nationals.  Maria is a 1996 graduate of Pine Island High School.

Concordia was the 1999 Indoor and Outdoor MIAC (Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) champions.  Maria was instrumental in these championship drives as the Cobbers unseated 14 time outdoor champion St. Thomas University.  Concordia also defended their 1998 indoor title.  Indoors she was second in the shot put and fifth in the weight throw.

Outdoors Maria was the MIAC champion in the discus, third in the shot put and fifth in the hammer throw.  In March Maria competed in the NCAA Division III Indoor Nationals at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.

Maria will be a senior captain for the 2000 Cobbers.
