MOOORHEAD, Minn. (4/06/10)-- For the third straight game Concordia used a high powered offensive attack to run away from an opponent and post a lopsided victory. On Tuesday the Cobbers rattled off a season-high 22 runs on 25 hits and battered Valley City State 22-12. The win is the fourth straight for CC and improves their overall record to 11-6 on the year.

The win also brings Cobber head coach Bucky Burgau to within one game of the 600-win marker. Burgau now has 599 career wins at Concordia and can become the 20th active DIII coach to reach 600 wins and the 32nd in the history of DIII baseball to reach that mark on Thursday when the team plays at Mayville State.

Concordia put the game out of reach in the third inning when they scored 14 runs, knocked out 13 hits and stayed at the plate for 32 minutes. At one point during the inning, Cobber batters had reached safely in 11 straight at bats. That inning pushed the CC lead from 3-1 to 17-1 and for all practical purposes sealed the outcome of the game.

Valley City (4-19) was able to get multiple runs in each of the final four innings to get to within 10 runs in the seventh, but the Cobbers notched one in the bottom of the seventh to end the game on the 10-run rule.

All nine hitters in the Concordia batting order recorded at least one hit in the game. The Cobbers had seven different players record multiple-hit games and five players had at least three hits in the contest. The majority of the damage was done by the team's No.2,3,4 and 5 hitters. Dan Wackler, Michael Carlson, Nick Lewis and Adam Johnson were a combined 16-for-19, scored 11 of the team's 22 runs and drove in 14 runs. Wackler was a perfect 5-for-5 and had a triple to go along with two doubles and two singles. It marked the second time in the past three games he has had five hits in a contest and over the Cobbers' four-game winning streak Wackler is hitting .684 and has scored 11 runs.

Carlson went 4-for-4 against the Vikings and collected a game-high five RBI. It was the first time this season he has had more than two RBI in a game and he upped his team-leading batting average to .462 on the year. Lewis also had four hits in the game and is now batting .365 on the year. Johnson hit one of the two wind-aided home runs in the game for CC. He hit his first HR of the season in the first inning to give Concordia a 3-1.

Tony Emmerich was the other Cobber player to go "yard". He was 2-for-4 and drove in a career-high four runs. Josh Dahlke was the final CC player with more than two hits in the game. He went 3-for-5 and scored three times.

The Cobber offense once again used its speed to set up the multiple-run innings. CC stole three bases in the game and upped its season total to 56. That is eight shy of the single season record. Concordia has stolen at least one base in all 17 games this year.

Jake Torrison picked up his third win of the year on the mound. He pitched the first four innings and allowed one earned run and only three hits. It was the first time all season he has allowed an earned run. Adam Johnson pitched the fifth inning and allowed four runs. Phil Moenkedick then took the mound for the first time this season and finished off the final two frames. Moenkedick, the 2010 National Champion in the 184-lb weight class in wrestling, also allowed four runs and gave up five hits.

Concordia will try and give Burgau his 500th win when they play at Mayville State on Thursday, Apr. 8 in a single nine-inning game. The Cobbers will then return to MIAC play when they travel to Minneapolis to take on Augsburg on Saturday, Apr. 10 at 1 p.m.
