(2/13/10)-- With each passing week Concordia junior Tom Sederquist seems to find a new gear. On Saturday Sederquist clocked an 8:39.72 in the 3000 meters at the Bison Open and finished fourth. That time is the fastest in school history since 1981 and second best in the MIAC this season. Sederquist's time was 13.09 seconds faster than his time the week before at the Cobber Duals meet. He finished fourth in the race that was hosted by DI NDSU and featured top runners from DI, DI and NAIA schools. Sederquist now owns the second fastest time in the conference in the 3000 meters and fourth fastest time in the 5000 meters as he starts to establish himself as one of the premiere distance runners in the conference. The meet was a step up in competition for the Cobbers, as they used their first road meet of the season to prepare for the conference indoor meet at the start of March. Top Concordia finishers in the meet included track athletes Troy Henne who ran a 2:04.42 in the 800 meters and finished 12th and Paul Lillehaugen who finished the mile in a time of 4:41.06 and placed 15th. Top field athletes at the meet were Andrew Overson who cleared a height of 13-03.50 in the pole vault and finished 12th, Seth Lage who went 20-08.00 in the long jump and was 15th and Felix Okoth who recorded a mark of 40-08.75 in the triple jump and also finished 15th. Brad Johnson participated in the heptathlon on Friday and Saturday and finished eighth with a final score of 3,366 points. The Cobbers will compete in the SJU Quadrangular Meet on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m.
