Doubleheader Recap: MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/26/10)-- Concordia's two seniors left the softball diamond at Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex after the final doubleheader of their careers as winners. Maddie Haroldson and Becki Zimmerman helped the Cobbers post a 6-5, 14-6 sweep over Carleton in the final two games of 2010. Haroldson was 2-for-3 in the second game and Zimmerman hit a home run in the opener as CC claimed its first conference sweep of the season. Concordia finishes the season with an 11-28 overall mark and an 8-14 record in the MIAC. The 11 wins in all games marks the 15th consecutive season that the Cobbers have won at least 10 games. Haroldson and Zimmerman were a part of an offense that knocked out 28 hits on the day. Concordia had a season-high 19 hits in the nightcap and the 14 runs scored in the second game was a highwater mark for league games. The Cobbers had to battle from behind in both games to come up with the sweep. In the opener, CC gave up three runs in the sixth inning and trailed 5-3 heading into the bottom of the frame. Concordia was able to come up with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and then held the Knights scoreless in the seventh to earn the win. All three of the Cobbers' runs in the sixth were unearned as CC was aided by two Carleton errors. Joelle Link started for the Cobbers in game 1 and pitched the first 5.2 innings. She gave up all five runs before Kesley Jones stepped into the circle to finish off the sixth inning and get the final out of the inning. She earned her fifth win of the year by pitching the final 1.1 innings and allowing only one hit. Freshman Kelly Tasky was the only CC hitter to have more than one hit in the first game. She went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. Seven of the other eight hitters in the batting order had one hit in the game. Carleton (6-26/3-15 MIAC) scored six times in the second inning of the second game and bolted to a 6-0 lead. In the second inning, the Knights cracked out six hits and had 12 players step to the plate. The Cobbers divided the lead in half in the third inning and then exploded for nine runs in the fifth inning. In those two innings, Concordia had 12 hits - including 10 in the fifth inning alone. CC tacked on two runs in the sixth to end the game early due to the eight-run rule. In the second game seven different CC hitters had at least two hits. The two biggest games came from freshmen Tasky and Kaia Sele. Tasky backed up her 2-for-4 performance in the opener with a 4-for-5 outing in the finale. She finished the day 6-for-9 with five RBI and three runs scored. Sele was 4-for-4 in the second game and drove in four runs. She jumped all over a pitch in the fifth inning and sent it flying over the right field fence to start the scoring barrage. It was her team-leading fourth long ball of the year. Sele also had a hit in both games and finished the year with a 10-game hitting streak. Cobber shortstop Nikki Clouse was 2-for-5 in the second game while Jones went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two doubles. The top four hitters in the Concordia order accounted for 12 hits and drove in nine runs. Jones picked up her second win of the day as she pitched all seven innings. She struggled to find the plate in the second inning, walking three batters but then settled down and held the Knights off the board for the final four innings. She retired eight of the final nine batters she faced. Haroldson won the team batting title. She picked up three hits against Carleton and finished with a .405 average.
