MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (1/22/10)-- Even though it had been over a month since Concordia had played an MIAC game, the usual suspects for the Cobber surfaced to score four unanswered goals and beat Augsburg 4-1 in Minneapolis on Friday.

Concordia leading scorer Katelyn Dold continued her scoring pace as she netted two goals, including the game winner, and added an assist. Not to be outdone, Emily Sell - the Cobbers' second leading scorer - came up with a goal and an assist and finished with a game-high seven shots on goal.

The win is the third straight for the Cobbers who move to 8-6-0 in all games and 3-4-0 in the MIAC. Concordia is now in seventh place in the league standings, just two points out of the fifth and final playoff spot. Augsburg loses for the fifth consecutive game and falls to 1-11-2 and 1-4-2 in league games.

The Auggies took advantage of Concordia's long conference layoff by scoring the opening goal of the game at 17:28 of the first period. Abbie Hawthorne scored her first collegiate goal to give Augsburg a 1-0 lead heading into the break. The first period was an even affair with Concordia holding a 10-9 edge in shots on goal.

The tide started to turn in the second period. The Cobbers were able to get more chances and came up with a pair of goals. Sell started the scoring when she scored at 6:47 on an assist from Dold. For Sell it was her team-leading 11th goal of the year. Dold would then score the eventual game winner at 15:57 when she finished off a pass from Kayla Hendrickson. CC skated to a 12-8 advantage in shots on goal in the middle frame as the rust started to leave the Cobber players' game.

The third period was all Concordia as they outshot the Auggies 16-5 and cashed in on two more goals. Kayla Thorson scored her fourth goal of the year on the power play at 8:12 and then Dold finished off the scoring with an empty-net goal at 19:49. Macy Leland and Ali Nelson picked up assists on Thorson's goal. Dold notched her seventh goal of the season in the final minute of play and now has 19 points on the year which is the most in the MIAC. Dold has now scored at least one point in eight of the past nine games.

The Cobbers outshot Augsburg 38-22 in the game. CC freshman goalie Desiree Goret made 21 saves to pick up her fourth win of the season. Toni Menth stopped 34 shots and was saddled with her 10th loss of the year.

The two teams will finish off their two-game series on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 2:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
