D3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week Release

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/14/10)-- Concordia junior Ben Anderson (Frazee, Minn.) was named the D3wrestle.com National Wrestler of the Week it was announced on Thursday. Anderson went 5-0 at the prestigious NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals Tournament and helped the Cobbers finish in sixth place.

Anderson becomes the first Cobber wrestler to win the National Wrestler of the Week award from D3wrestle.com since Phil Moenkedick earned the honor on Feb. 13, 2008.

Anderson led all Cobber wrestlers as he posted a perfect 5-0 record at 141. Anderson, who entered the meet ranked fourth in the nation, scored five decisions in the meet. He posted one of the team's two victories against Coe. His biggest win came in the opening round when he posted a 3-1 decision over No.7-ranked Kevin Donahue of Cornell who  was a 2009 NCAA All-American. Anderson also beat 2009 NCAA Champion Minga Batsukh of St. John’s, Alex Dahl of UW-La Crosse, Chris LeClere of Coe and John Donaleski of Johnson & Wales. 

Anderson currently leads the team in wins this season with a 22-3 record. He captured the individual championship at the Cobber Open and was fifth at the Bison Open. Anderson is currently one of four Concordia wrestlers ranked in the top 10 in the nation. Anderson is currently ranked fourth at 141 in the recent Adidas/Brute National Coaches poll.
